Hatshepsut mummy

The true mummy of ancient Egyptian queen Hatshepsut was discovered in the third floor of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Secretary General of Supreme Council for Antiquities Zahi Hawwas revealed on Thursday.

The mummy was missing among thousands of artifacts lying in the museum, he said during his lecture at the New York-based Metropolitan Museum of Arts.

He said for decades archaeologists believed that a mummy found in Luxor was that of the Egyptian queen. It was a streak of luck, he said, to find this mummy.

The Metropolitan is hosting a Hatshepsut exhibition that displays 270 artifacts on the life history of the queen.

The American museum honoured Hawwas and his accompanying delegation in appreciation of their effort to unravel the mysteries of the Egyptian Pharaohnic age.

Fastest Train by 2012

Trains on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railroad under construction will run at 350 km per hour, the fastest in the world, said Li Heping, a researcher at the China Academy of Railway Sciences on Friday.

The 1,318-km-long railway line, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, will beat the fastest rails in the world at present, which has a designed speed of 320 kilometers per hour, he said.

Trains will take less than five hours to make the run from the capital to Shanghai, which is now at least 11 hours.

The new rail line would be used for passenger service, while the existing one for cargo transportation, according to Li.

"The railway traffic strain will be greatly eased by 2012 as the country will increase investment and build faster rails and trains," he said.

The Ministry of Railways has said it planned to invest 1.2 trillion yuan (about 175.44 billion U.S. dollars) to improve the railway system, aiming to have 13,000 km of passenger lines by 2012.

According to Li, 8,000 km of the lines would allow trains to travel between 200 to 350 km per hour, and 5,000 km for trains with a speed from 200 to 250 km.

The money is part of the 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package announced by the government late last year, the ministry said.

Currently, there are not enough seats for all the people who want to travel, especially during the Lunar New Year every year, when millions are on the move for family reunion.

"Research on high-speed trains are going on smoothly," he said. The new trains would be batch-produced after trial operations in 2012.

China was developing trains that would run at a designed speed of 350 km per hour, and the speed for test might exceed 380 kilometers, according to Li.

China aimed to put 120,000 km of rail lines in service by 2020,of which 16,000 km would be dedicated to only passenger services, according to the Ministry of Railways.

To meet the 2020 target will require about 5 trillion yuan, the ministry said.

Lung cancer is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth may lead to metastasis, which is the invasion of adjacent tissue and infiltration beyond the lungs. The vast majority of primary lung cancers are carcinomas of the lung, derived from epithelial cells. Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related death in men and the second most common in women (after breast cancer), is responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide annually. The most common symptoms are shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood), and weight loss.

The main types of lung cancer are small cell lung carcinoma and non-small cell lung carcinoma. This distinction is important, because the treatment varies; non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is sometimes treated with surgery, while small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) usually responds better to chemotherapy and radiation. The most common cause of lung cancer is long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. Work begins on iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak

The iPhone Dev-Team says the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 can be jailbroken but issued a warning to some 3G users eager to get that shiny new copy-paste feature.

Apple unveiled on Tuesday some of what it says will be 100 new features coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch with the new version of the mobile operating system. A beta version was made available immediately to everyone in the iPhone Developer Program, and it didn't take long for developers to get cracking on iPhone OS 3.0.

The Dev-Team confirmed that the new version is "jailbreakable" on all devices in a blog posted Tuesday .But they said people who've already unlocked their 3G devices with Yellowsn0w will run into trouble if they download the 3.0 beta.

This is because Yellowsn0w jailbreak capitalizes on the device's baseband radio, which is used to link up the device with the network and which will be changed by the iPhone 3.0 update,according to InfoWorld's Ian Paul. The Dev-Team warns that upgrading to 3.0 with Yellowsn0w installed will cause people to lose Yellowsn0w and will be unable to get it back.

Needless to say, the Dev-Team weren't the only people tinkering around with the iPhone beta. One developer (via MacRumors) was able to activate the iPhone's tethering feature via a USB cable. Apple announced on Tuesday that it had built in the capability to tether an iPhone to a laptop via Bluetooth. But the company said it's up to individual carriers whether they want to make it available on their networks and that the feature wouldn't be widely available until that happened.

Women poorly represented in DD, AIR

Expressing their disappointment over the poor representation of women in Prasar Bharati, particularly in its Board, the Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women, which tabled its 22nd report on ‘the Working Condition of Women in Prasar Bharati’ in Parliament on 18 February has noted that among the 15 members’ board of Prasar Bharati, there is only one women representative as the part time member.
The committee has pointed out that the post of director general in All India Radio (AIR) as well as in Doordarshan are lying vacant for more than one and half years.
The report says against the total strength of 40,000 employees in Prasar Bharati, 11962 posts (around 30 per cent) have been vacant for years at all levels.
Doordarshan with 21,708 sanctioned posts has a shortfall of 4,629 while AIR has 7,333 vacancies against its capacity of 29,629.
The committee noted that 1,353 women (around 8 per cent) work in various categories among the present 17,079 employees in Doordarshan while among the present 22,296 employees in all categories, only 1854 women work in AIR from Group ‘A’ to ‘C’.
The committee also found that 105 posts in Doordarshan and 289 in AIR under SC and ST categories are still vacant. This is a matter of serious concern and anxiety, the committee observed.
According to the report, the percentage of women in Group A and B is 25 and 19 per cent respectively in Doordarshan while it is 14 and 15 per cent respectively in these groups in AIR.
Though the committee is comparatively satisfied with the representation of women in higher posts in both organisations, they are unhappy at the dwindling numbers of women in lower categories.
“With regard to the promotion in AIR and Doordarshan, some categories of employees, especially the UPSC recruited programme executives, have been languishing in the same post without a single promotion for over 20 years,” the committee noted.
It felt women employees are discriminated against in promotions. The committee recommended that their claims should be adequately addressed at the time of finalising promotions. The committee also recommended that two members of the board should be from SC/ ST.

An accused can be convicted for outraging the modesty of a woman on the basis of mere knowledge of an accused that his action would outrage the modesty of a woman, the Supreme Court has held.
Section 354 IPC provides a maximum of two-year sentence for an accused convicted for outraging the modesty of a woman.
